LBCs Introductions – 2022/23

If you are thinking about joining DCBC this coming year, then feel free to get in contact with our friendly LBCs! Their job is to help organise novice training, socials and much more to help everyone into rowing. They will be at the Fresher’s Fair early on in Michaelmas term, and will also be at our Taster Days.

Holly Thompson

Holly Thompson – LBC 2022/23

Hi! I’m Holly, a second year Bio Natsci. I started rowing last year at DCBC, and quite accidentally fell into the sport. I have absolutely loved rowing this last year, with the socials, the excitement of bumps, and the friendships from rowing being some of the highlights of my first year while also being a great way to keep fit. I look forward to getting to know you all, and I hope you all give rowing a try!

Maximilian Miramon

Maximilian Miramon – LBC 2022/23

Hello! My name is Max, I am a second year lawyer and one of your LBCs. From my very first week as a fresher last year, when I attended my first formal and met the boat club, this community of rowers has been an intrinsic part of my life at Cambridge. Whether providing balance with your studies by training outdoors, giving you an outlet to express your competitive side or organising an extensive calendar of socials for you to attend, I have found that the boat club has everything you could need. Learning to row and becoming part of this community was the highlight of my first year, and it would be my pleasure to help you become part of it as well!

Jiali Fan

Jiali Fan – LBC 2022/23

Hello! I’m Jiali, a second year PhD in Sociology and one of your LBCs this year. I’m here to encourage you to give rowing, a weird and wonderful Cambridge tradition a go. As someone who is very small, the only sport I did before Cambridge was squash and I never thought I could row. However, the ‘quirky’ and ‘wild’ sides of me decided to try something different when coming to Downing – one of the best decisions I’ve made. The boat club really is an inclusive and encouraging place – it offers a chance to express yourself, adds a twist to your social life, and keeps you sane! I enjoyed every outing and race I did with my crew last year and it largely bolstered my confidence and character. Rowing let me see the power and energy hidden inside of me and I’m sure it will bring some surprises to you as well. I’m looking forward to meeting and rooting for you all!

Rijuta Jeswani

Rijuta Jeswani – LBC 2022/23

Hello! My name is Rijuta, a second year Phys Natsci. I joined DCBC through my college family, and have been able to find my own family here now. The coaching and team spirit has allowed me to learn to cox with no prior experience. The socials allowed me to meet so many people it’s now impossible for me to walk around Downing without waving hello to someone from the boat club! Alongside rowing and my degree, I enjoy playing Ultimate frisbee. I hope you will give coxing or rowing a try and enjoy and learn as much as I did!

If you would like to get in contact with our LBCs with any questions you may have about learning to row or cox at Downing, feel free to contact them at – they are all very friendly and looking forward to meeting you!
