Facilities

Downing College Boat Club gets to enjoy some of the best facilities and equipment of any college in Cambridge, or even boat club in the country. The current Downing boathouse was built in 2001, and was refurbished in 2017 to include an eight-oared rowing tank – the Cambridge Rowing Tank.

The Downing Boathouse

Our boathouse is spacious and well equipped to fit our needs. We have a fully furnished weights room, and an erg room with nine Concept 2 rowing machines, and one RP3 rowing machine, along with a watt-bike. These are all exclusively for the use of members of Downing College Boat Club. There is also a large club room used for hosting social events.

The generosity of the Segreants’ Trust means that we are always fully equipped with world class racing shells. The top crews row in Filippis and Stämpflis, which we have consistently found to be the best boats for navigating the tight corners on the River Cam. We have an extensive fleet of high-quality boats for rowers of every level, including several fine racing VIIIs, boats suitable for novices, and a large range of small boats.
